BJÖRN VIKTORSSON

BJÖRN VIKTORSSON is an independent sound designer and sound mixer. He was born in Akranes, a small town in west of Iceland in 1976. From his early teens he hung out in his parents garage, making music with his friends. Slowly envolving into recording music and other noises, on his own throughout his teens. After finishing school he started to work for theaters, with sound, lights and other jobs. Björn finally studied audio engineering at SAE (School of Audio Engineering) in Glasgow in 1999.

After studying, Björn worked at RÚV (The Icelandic National Broadcast Company) and then for Cinema Sound ltd. in Iceland. Since 2001 he has worked in all fields of sound for film and television, be it pre-production, production, post-producion or sound design.

In 2014 he started his own company Akkeri Films. At the moment working in the field, recording sounds and then doing the re-recording in his own theatrical mix stage in Iceland are definitely his strongholds and his main interests. Although in recent years he has done quite a bit of work abroad, mainly Denmark, Holland, Germany and Sweden. He has many good collaborators such as Heikki Kossi, Kristian Selin Eidnes Andersen, Jan Schermer, Julien Naudin, Lars Halvorsen and Fredrik Dallenfjall among others.

Björn is the sound designer for The Love That Remains by Hlynur Pálmason, sound designer / re-recording mixer for Godland by Hlynur Pálmason, Northern Comfort by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson, Beatiful Beings by Guðmundur Arnar (Rr-mixer), Nest by Hlynur Pálmason. A Matter of Trust by Anette K. Olesen, Lille Sommerfugl by Sören Kragh Jacobsen, Lamb by Valdimar Jóhannesson, A White White Day by Hlynur Pálmasson (Rr-mixer), Under the Tree by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson, Rams by Grímur Hákonarson, The Last Autumn by Yrsa Roca Fannberg, Dreamland by Þorfinnur Guðnason to name a few.

In between from 2004-2014 he was the supervising sound editor and main sound designer for the kids TV program LazyTown, produced by Nickelodeon and later Warner Brothers.

Björn has won the Best Sound at The EDDA, Icelandic Film Awards for Rams in 2015,  for Lamb in 2022  and Northern Comfort in 2024. He has been nominated 9 times for the same prize from 2008-2022. 

Björn is also the sound mixer for films such as: The Love That Remains, Godland, Beatiful Beings, Lamb, A White White, Under the Tree, Heartstone by Guðmundur Arnar, Ram, Trapped and Katla by Baltasar Kormákur, The Deep by Baltasar Kormákur, Síðasti Bærinn by Rúnar Rúnarsson which was nominated for the Oscars shorts in 2005.

Björn is a member of MPSE (Motion Pictures Sound Editors).
